yes, what you want is exactly what Pop3 provides. Imap is more for people wanting to see and manage their mails from several devices, such as 2 PC, or a PC and a phone.

Well, I have several email accounts and I use a PC and a laptop (sometimes phone ) and I use a mail washer to filter out anything I don't want to download and save to my PC. The mail washer does delete from server.. have no idea why the mail program cannot do this as well. I can't imagine why the remote servers would want all these emails saved on their servers.. I cannot delete in my washer or I will lose it in my mail program, found this the hard way and will have to ask my brother to resend the clip of his recent song..

This is totally stupid. If I didn't have the mail washer, then all these emails from all these accts would just stay on the remote servers? 1000's of emails on there? What a horribly unorganized way of doing things.. I cannot manage my email remotely with Thunderbird. I can with the mail washer, except if I delete mail from the washer, I lose the downloaded email in Thunderbird as well.

I am not happy with Thunderbird, it worked fine.. until a few months ago when Thunderbird updated and wiped out all my old emails. Mom's recipes I'll never get back.. these are not stored in any folders .. I already asked and received answers on how to retrieve these.. the email folders are unreadable or I can put them in text and scroll through thousands of lines of sentences to find the one I want..

I will go back and delete my acccounts and reset them up in Thunderbird as POP3, I never set them up as Imap I think TB did that automatically.. I have no idea why my old email addy got changed to imap? When I added a new addy, it set it up automatically as Imap. Just went out and gathered the info and set it up..

 I will look for a better email program.
