Hi, I updated my version of Thunderbird by downloading the latest version and installing it as opposed to allowing Thunderbird to automatically update. The basic reason was my old version didn't support OAuth 2.0 which I needed to continue using my gmail account. After the update, I had 2 problems. First, my address book was empty but I have solved that from a backup Profiles folder I have. The second problem is when I start Thunderbird I get the following error message in the pane that would normally show the last email in my inbox:- "File not found

The file mailbox:///C|/Users/blogs/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/ohv7zad7.default/Mail/Local Folders/Inbox cannot be found. Please check the location and try again."

The 8 digit default file is showing a different 8 digits to my actual Profiles folder. What do I need to do to prevent the error message appearing every time I start up Thunderbird, All my old emails are appearing as they should. Thanks PL

Well, it seems safe to me. And I'm glad it was minor.

I suggest this: right-click on accountname and click 'settings' check directory for server settings and for local folders settings. Without knowing your specifics, it seems one of these is pointing incorrectly.

Thanks David. That hasn't solved the problem. In both Server Settings and Local Folders the 8 digit folder name is pointing to the correct location. I am assuming that the 8 digit foldername that appears in the body of the error message may be a random file name generated when I installed the updated version of Thunderbird? I have seached on my C drive for the 8 digit Folder name that appears in the error message but get zero result. Could that 8 digit bumber appear in Windows Registry somewhere that is causing it to appear in the error message? Thanks for your help PL

In the upgrade, did TB prompt for new email account? There is something in TB causing this and, if it wasn't there prior to upgrade, something happened during upgrade. I suggest right-click all local folders to check properties. It seems the profile must have existed at some point in time. But I'm guessing here.

Thanks again David. When I upgraded, TB did not prompt me to do anything but I think, subject to your expert comments, I may have accidently stumbled across a solution to my problem. The Properties for all my Local Folders show the location to be the correct 8 digit random filename. HOWEVER, if I select Tools/Preferences from the toolbar, under the Genneral Tab the TB Start Page Location is shown as mailbox:/C|/Users/******/AppData/Roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/ohv7zad7.default/Mail/Local Folders/Inbox which is the WRONG 8 digit filename that appears in the Startup Error Message. I assume I can safely click on the "Restore Default" button and that it will solve the problem. Do you agree with my proposed course of action? The above doesn't explain how the problem was caused during the upgrade but I am only really concerned with a solution and not the cause. Not wanting to mess up anything, I will await your response before doing anything PL

Thanks again for all your help David. My chosen solution was to remove the tick in the box under Tools/Preferences/General/Thunderbird Start Page. TB now opens showing my Inbox but without the error message in the pane below the listed Inbox Emails. That pane is now blank until I select a message to view. PL
