I'm using TB 91.7.0 (64-bit) on Mint Linux. I somehow deleted a folder full of messages.

I do have a backup of the entire TB folder from few days ago, but can't figure out how to restore that folder back into the main TB universe.

Everything I have found says to use https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-CA/thunderbird/addon/importexporttools/ but that apparently has been corrupted as a protest by the author.

"Apparently the add-on has been corrupted by the author. "The site and all the extensions have been made unavailable as a form of protest against the illegal fascist measures and abuses against personal rights that have been occurring in Italy (the country where I live) since March 2020."

So, can someone tell me how to restore a folder of messages back into my T-bird successfully? Thanks everyone, Barry

Was the folder under a POP account, or the Local Folders account?

It's an IMAP account. The backup of the TB folder is on my local drive. I copied the sub-folder in question into the TB INBOX.sbd folder for that account on my local drive, but can't make it appear.

Am I perhaps correct that I also need to copy over the *.msf folder?

NO. Didn't change anything.

Does the subfolder you copied have a .sbd suffix in its name? You need to copy only two items, that is, the mbox file (it has no extension) and a matching .sbd folder if one exists. Don't copy them into the ImapMail folder. Place them in Mail > Local Folders.

Thanks Stan, I'm attaching a screen grab of the TB directory. The account involved is imap.easymail.ca. It does not have a Local Folder. (second image) The Mail/Local Folder seems to be unused aside from leftover bits from a defunct old account.

Yes, it's a totally atypical install. :)

Like I said, you actually need to copy the backed up items to the Mail > Local Folders directory and NOT the ImapMail > imap.easymail.ca or any other directory under ImapMail.

Let's say the folder you deleted was named Lost in Thunderbird and it was a subfolder of the Inbox. What you need to do, is go to your backup > ImapMail > imap.easymail.ca > Inbox.sbd and copy the file named Lost and folder named Lost.sbd (if it exists), then paste them into your profile folder > Mail > Local Folders. When you restart Thunderbird, you should find the Lost folder and any subfolders it contained, under the Local Folders account.

Alas, still no success. I think that for the moment I'll just ignore it. There's nothing that can't be reconstructed by hand if needed. Thank you! Barry

You cannot put anything back into an IMAP account because when you restart Thunderbird, the first thing that occurs is a check with server. As the folder does not exist on server it is removed from the account.

That means you have to put it into the Mail/'Local Folders' mail account in order to access the folder to see emails. Later you can create a new folder in Imap account and copy emails from Local Folders into that new imap folder to upload back to server Or just leave in Local Folders.

If you have already copied over a file or folder into 'Local Folders' mail account, then post an image showing all the contents of the 'Local Folders' folder and tell us the name of the file/folder, so we can see what is going on.

What is it called ? Is it just an mbox text file - no extension If yes: Exit Thunderbird Access profile name folder/Mail/Local Folders paste mbox file into 'Local Folders' folder. OR Is it a folder with a .sbd extension that contains mbox files? If yes: Exit Thunderbird Access profile name folder/Mail/Local Folders paste *sbd folder into 'Local Folders' folder At this point you need an mbox file of same name so Thunderbird knows about the *sbd folder. If you have one in the backup then copy it over into 'Local Folders' folder or create a new one. If you create a new text document, call it exactly the same name as used in the *.sbd folder. Example: if folder was called 'Lost.sbd' then new text document is called 'Lost' and make sure it has no extension.

re: addon you say you use version 91.7.0

The addon you mention is not the correct one.

'ImportExportTools NG' is designed for the thunderbird version you are using.

re : The Mail/Local Folder seems to be unused aside from leftover bits from a defunct old account.

That is the location you need to paste the files/folders. Exit Thunderbird first, copy paste the files/folders and post new image showing what you added.
