In the last two days I have made two on-line purchases from each of which I would expect two notification e-mails, four in all. On both purchases the confirmation e-mail for one part of the order (e.g. PayPal payment) was received but the second part - the order confirmation itself - was not. I have never encountered this problem before. However, checking webmail from my ISP shows both pairs of e-mails for each order were in my mailbox, and when I downloaded my waiting emails on a second mail client on my machine all four emails were delivered to me in one go. I am running Thunderbird 91.2.0 under Windows 10Pro 64bit. The system is operating under POP3 with no post-delivery automatic mail deletion from my ISP's mail server. I note that T'bird was automatically updated only two days or so ago and it would appear that this problem has only occurred since then.

Er, help?

looked in Thunderbird junk folder? I am guess the mail if probably from Amazon or eBay and both do their best to track your every move. The result is their mail is very spammy. Along with mail from US political parties it is a prime candidate for incorrect flagging.

The orders were for coffee from Lavazza and for a shower curtain from John Lewis.

As I said I have placed many orders and quite a few on these two, and two mails from each (one for the order and one for the payment) have always arrived. In this instance both have arrived but only the first (in terms of mail delivery time) show up in Thunderbird but both show up elsewhere.

I have done some more checks.

I have a laptop set up identically to my desktop, except that where my desktop is running TB 92.2.0 under Windows 10 Pro 64bit my laptop is running TB 92.1.2 with the same operating system and config.

Just this afternoon I have received two sequential emails from the same source but with different message headers and contents. BOTH emails were received on the laptop but only the later email (57 minutes after the first mail) was delivered to the desktop. Thunderbird settings are identical for both machines.

I also have OEClassic (a re-written version of the original Outlook Express) on the desktop and that programme also gets both mails.

This is getting worrying. I have no idea why TB on the desktop is acting differently to OEClassic on the same machine or to TB on the laptop.

Is the account set up as IMAP on all computers, phones etc. and in all mail apps? If one device or app has the account as POP, and deletes from the server after download, messages will not appear on other devices. OEClassic supports IMAP as of v. 3.0.

If you read again I said that all units/software is set up as POP3 and they are also set to never delete. Same applies to my phone and tablet.

Basically I do not like IMAP as it takes up far too much space both in memory and on screen if you have more than a couple of e-mail addresses.
