downloaded from Thunderbird website. Everything went fine until the Wizard asked me to select upgrade to continue. Then it wouldn't launch because it couldn't find a profile. There is no profile yet I couldn't get the program to open to set one up. HELP

What (error) message do you get?

This was my first time trying Thunderbird, so I went to the website and did a downloaded which gave me version 78.4.0, I extracted and installed using the Wizard. On the next to last step of the Wizard it said offered back, update, cancel options. My only option was to update I did and Thunderbird apparently installed it was checked to launch Thunderbird. I did then a message popped up saying it couldn't find or access my "profile" In order to get the exact wording I would have to go through the entire process again to capture it. My guess is that the "update" choice is taking me to a different place. No where on my computer ( Windows 10 opsys) do I have a Thunderbird Profile. I couldn't even find anything using the %appdata% or thunderbird-p search process. Does this help you to help me???

Yes it does. For starters, make sure you are downloading from the official website here https://thunderbird.net. Open the list of installed programs either in Control Panel or the Settings app and uninstall all Thunderbird installations listed there. Next, go to C:\Program Files (x86) and C:\Program Files and delete the Mozilla Thunderbird folder from both locations. Right-click on Start -> Run and type %appdata% in the Run box and press Enter. In the AppData\Roaming folder that opens, delete the Thunderbird folder from there. Using Run utility again, open the %localappdata% folder and delete the Thunderbird folder from there too. Run installer again. It should not offer the "Upgrade" option because their is no Thunderbird installation to upgrade no more. It's a clean installation instead. Once the installation is complete, launch Thunderbird and see how it goes.
