Hello. Two days ago there was an update. Since no more email reception. So I tried to fix this bug but no succeed. I installed a new version and it's worth, no access to thunderbird. I have to create a new profile but no success. I need to keep all the files of my thundbird. Nobody to contact directly. It's a kind of labyrinth as awfull as all bigdata websites. I read some support pages and no solution for fixing my problem. Maybe I'm a noob, anyway I need a real and precise help

Thanks.

Before upgrade to TB 78 those "files" (for address book) were backed-up by TB. Now you need to put back the files from "back-up" - below instructions: 1. Click on the menu button, then go to Help and select Troubleshooting Information. 2. Profile area - Click on Open Folder. Your Thunderbird profile folder will open in Windows Explorer. 3. Close Thunderbird. 4. Search these files: abook.mab, abook.mab.bak, abook.sqlite, history.mab, history.mab.bak, history.sqlite - and move them (not delete nor copy) in a folder from desktop 5. After that these 2 files - abook.mab.bak and history.mab.bak - you need to copy them back on that profile folder and after were copied, in that profile folder (not those from desktop) rename them to: abook.mab and history.mab 6. Open Thunderbird and check

You might downgrade to last v68 (though by the error mentioned by you I assume you already tried that but you did not start the old version as mentioned below) - https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/68.9.0/ Download software and install it. On last step of the installation do NOT select to start tb After installed go to run (search run, select that run app) and write on that small field this: thunderbird --allow-downgrade Press enter and that's all. You will have 68 working.

After that go to Option - Update - change update to manually and disable update service. After that you can search for updates manually (should suggest 68.12 - this one you can update). Please note that you will need to search on addons page the versions which are working with 68.0* - those with 78* will not work

Thank you very much for your reply. I did all what you propose but when I open ThB there is a window asking to create an email adress and there is nothing, no last emails received, no adresses etc

more options

Start thunderbird with "-p" command (as above but instead thunderbird --allow-downgrade write -p) and select a different profile and check if the mails are not on other profile.

I just did but it doesn't open. i found the file Default user and all the files (emails, adresses etc.) are there, I don't understand why I can't open Thb when I choose the good profile in the choose box.

What error do you have? If something about profile and new version then now again thunderbird --allow-downgrade

I don't have any error but thb doesn't open. The name of the good file is gobw04ul.default I choose the correspondant profile but it doesn't work. Should I supprime the other profiles which are empty?

Assuming you are on v68 (after downgrade from v78): First with -p try to open each profile listed till you get an error that the profile can't be used. When you receive that error click on exit. After that: thunderbird --allow-downgrade

The basic idea is to try to find what profile did you used before upgrade. Then when you find the correct profile to start TB with that command
