New mails being received in inbox kept getting set as auto read
Hi there,
I hope that whoever reads this, is well !
I have an issue regarding mails that kept on getting auto read on a Thunderbird client of a user in our organisation.
I have checked in Thunderbird > Preferences > 'Display' > 'Advanced' tab' I have selected: 'Automatically mark messages as read' as well as also selected 'After displaying for 3 seconds', and then it seems to work fine while sending test mails, but soon thereafter, when the user starts receiving mails again, the messages just keep coming into the inbox as already have been read, I've tried reinstalling Thunderbird, which also did unfortunately not work.
Is there perhaps any other assistance that can be provided to me or some advice I can try and follow to try sort this out ?
Kind Regards - Jeshua

Is the account accessed on other devices? If messages are first read on, e.g., a phone, and the account is IMAP, they will be marked as read if they are then accessed on other devices including ones with TB.

I've asked the user and made sure with about this - they mentioned that they have not ever added this account to any device other than the work device they are using, as this is a work only email account.
Is it possible there is some other process that is 'opening' messages, such as a security/antispam/AV program? What is the AV, and is the TB profile folder an exclusion in AV settings (even if the AV is Windows Defender)?

This is on a MAC device, and we use FortiClient as our AV. I've tried checking in the AV settings itself, but cannot find anything regarding possible exclusions for any programs.
Exclusions are explained on the Antivirus/Configure Antivirus/Manage the Antivirus exclusion list section (p76) in this document. The profile folder location is shown in Help/Troubleshooting, about:profiles.
Even if the AV is not the cause, it's generally recommended to exclude the profile folder:
