after upgrade to Thunderbird 78 unable to send a message

With respect .......I have NOT chosen anything.......clearly the 78 upgrade has defaulted to various situations e.g the initial problem with the black background with white text. But, nevertheless I thank you for painstakingly getting to the root of the problem. I can now confirm that the problem is solved. Eric walker

In Options > General scroll down to Language & Appearance Fonts & Colours Click on 'Colours'..button
Text & background text white chosen background white chosen
So you have chosen white text on a white background ?
Suggest you change the 'white' text colour to 'black' or 'blue' as white text will never be visible on a white background.
