Rapsac44 here again. I have confirmed that the profile is one into which I copied old mailboxes. I created a new mailbox and T-bird put it in a new folder called "Local Folders-1" but it does not seem to be able to read the copied "Local Folders" file.

I have spent countless days and week on this and given up. If there was not a bug in the coding Thunderbird would simply update, but it fails and then you have to manually download it. It then is complete mess trying to restore one's existing profile even if it is the new application files that come up in profile Manager. You get everything back and the if you ever remove the icon from the Dock ( I have a Mac) it makes you install application again and if you have to restart ever it makes you to install it again. People on here coached me through a lot of scenarios, but none of them worked.

So, on a Mac restore to an earlier time when everything was working and and do not update ever again until Thunderbird sort out the problems. Just be happy you have a working Thunderbird. If you have a PC restore to the last checkpoint before it all went pear shaped.

Life is too short to invest countless hours, days, weeks on an App that is malfunctioning on an update. I looked at Sea Monkey etc., but no thanks. I like Thunderbird, but I am totally fed up with the fact that the 68. series has been problematic since 68.7.0. My iMac is fairly new and has no issues and runs like a dream, however, Thunderbird updates do not work. Of course just having everything work again is great, but why it does not update Thunderbird seem happy to just ignore, as the platform has drifted away from the base family.

For anyone reading this, I've figured it out again. Once you've created a mew profile, you can copy old DATA into the new profile. Data includes mailboxes and address books ("mab"), although I have not been able to get my new profile to use the old address book files I copied in). Help with this would be appreciated. Old mailboxes seem to be just fine, containing all my old emails.

Next time, you would get better help if you did not add Replies to an old thread from April. A Reply is usually help for the original question - so if you have a new problem, post a separate question. That would then show as unsolved and attract expert help.

As to your issue - you seem to be on the right track, copying the files from your previous profile into the new one is one way to get your old data into the right place for Thunderbird to find it.

You can find more information about profiles and issues with upgrades throughout the forum. Try profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data

This says to not add replies to an old thread but I looked for a way to post a new thread for Tbird only for FF and couldn't figure it out, so here goes. I have Windows 8.1 latest version. The wifi here has been mostly down so I don't know when this problem actually started. One day it was fine and the next time I could get on everything was gone. I don't know when it updated itself but I sure wish it hadn't.

I am a 72 year old who can do a few things on the computer but I am definitely NOT a tech person and most of the replies above made my eyes cross and my head spin. I tried the first "solution" by copy/paste the 32 bit then the 64 bit addresses above into the Start - Search programs space and what I got with the 64 bit is in the attached file. I don't know what to do. PLEASE, I need answers in step by step increments that work. Thank you, Bernadine
