A while ago I reported that thunderbird takes 10 minutes to startup and was told it was due to lightning being synchronous and it holds up the user interface from displaying. I have since updated to 68.5.0 and it is unusable for the same reason where the app consumes 25% of CPU for over an hour. Someone else also reported this on RaspberryPi forum. Is it possible to get either a new release or instructions on how to install an older version, and which one is recommended?

Thank you for your response. Instead of backtracking, I decided to try Arch Linux ARM 4.19 with Thunderbird and it works as expected. So, it appears there is a bug in Raspbian Buster 4.19 that causes Thunderbird to get hung in a loop during initialization and furthermore if calendar is enabled.

Hello there We have read your message We try to help you.

Ah the Raspberry forum, okay. Yes, there are indeed some more bugs that have become more publicized in the last type versions software of Thunderbird.

If the recommended came back from last time, yes it could.

The measurements of the lake Cpu power supply. At 25% that's quite a yes.

An earlier version of Thunderbird software to improve all this regarding the situation now?

Pick one.

Hello День сумо,

I'm not sure what you're asking but I'll try to explain what works: Arch Linux ARM (ALARM) on RPi4B. I copy my .thunderbird folder to a backup drive then boot ALARM 4.19, copy the .thunderbird folder to that OS image, then install and run the Thunderbird app. When the app loads, it takes a few seconds to startup but then continues to respond to my input without any hesitations, as one would expect.

On Raspbian Buster 4.19, this does not happen. Instead it locks up the user interface while consuming 25%+ CPU. I can click on buttons, and was able to generate a Gecko Profile to report this as a bug, but I have to sit and wait for minutes (doing nothing else on the computer) for a Thunderbird app response. As you can imagine, Thunderbird is not usable because I cannot do anything else when trying work with email.

Let me know if there's anything else I can describe regarding this bug. I'm happy with ALARM because there were other issues with Raspbian that are working as expected but do work correctly on ALARM, like Bluetooth headphones and network drives.

Thanks, Frank Gould
