I cannot remove a thunderbird email account or SMTP connected server that shows as a bold entry in the left hand pane These are preventing my use of my main email account. My mailboxes are valuable to me. Can I reinstall Thunderbird and still access the mailboxes. I am prepared to re setup my email accounts. Not sure what "open an account at Local Folders means. Does this account have a folder named Outbox under it?

Thank you for checking. Have you seen my second post asking if I could reload Thunderbird but still keep my mailboxes. I accept I would need to setup each email account. I have considered this because, when I amend the SMTP server in the account to be deleted or the separate SMTP server below, it changes the SMTP settings in my main email account. As a matter of record, The settings page for the account to be deleted has the following at the top: "The following is a special account. There are no identities associated with it" apart from that, the settings forms are normal. Under the account heading are the words "junk settings, Disc space and in Bold " Outgoing server (SMTP) settings." In my main account I can receive messages but not send. The "special account" is the default Local Folders. If you renamed it for some unknown reason I suggest to name it back to Local Folders and leave it that way. It is part of Thunderbird and cannot be removed.

I read you post. Did you read mine. Reloading the program does just that and rarely fixes anything. Your data and settings are in your profile and would be picked up by any new installation and all would be like it is now.

Each of your actual accounts, not the Local Folder account you renamed, need to have their own SMTP server setting established and assigned to the correct account. If you do not have that right now you need to be fixing that and not reinstalling the program.

Local Folders already is a built-in account, and it's just what it says - local. You cannot create another account underneath Local Folders, and Local Folders cannot be deleted. I neither understand what you did, nor what you're trying to delete. Can you explain in more detail?

Also, please post your Troubleshooting Information. At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button , then select Help > Troubleshooting Information. Press the "Copy text to clipboard button" and paste the information into your reply.

You can do whatever you want, but you'd be wasting your time. Profile files are stored separately from the Thunderbird program files. The program files are static and do not change (except when you upgrade the Thunderbird application version). Because we store profile and program files separately, you can uninstall Thunderbird without losing your messages and settings, and if something goes wrong with a Thunderbird update your information will still be available. It also means that you don't have to reinstall Thunderbird in order to delete your information or troubleshoot a problem.

Hello , Local Folders is as it should be. However, below it is an entry that shows as Outgoing Server SMTP. If I change any setting here the change also happens in my main server settings. Also, any changes I make to the SMTP main account settings are reflected in the low Outgoing Server SMTP. The outgoing ports advised by Zen are 25 and 587. Neither works. The error message when trying to send is: Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) mailhost.zen.co.uk was lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again. This is the troubleshooting information:

You appear to have a few things that are not correct.

Let's talk about the gmail account first. account6:

You have an imap gmail account which is not using the correct Outgoing SMTP server. In Account Settings window, at the bottom of left pane is 'Outgoing server (SMTP)' This is where all your outgoing server smtp are listed. You should have one for gmail. If you do not then you need to add it. see first image below as guide. Then you need to make sure the imap gmail account is actually using it, because currently it is not. See second image below as guide.
