Okay.. i have been running Thunderbird v2.0.0.24 from the day it came out. i LOVE it and i LOVE the Add-Ons that work with it. NOW, When my wife got a new system, i installed the latest and greatest version of Thunderbird. It looks REALLY Cool with the Calendar and such. SO.. is there a way to leave my v2.0.0.24 where its at.. and install 68.2.2 on the same system?? AND.. slowly merge what mail boxes i really want instead of all of them??!!?? Thank You for your Time, Help and Support, David, ThunderBoyDavid

Hello there again. ThunderboyDavid.

One installation can easily handle multiple email accounts. Please feel free to download.

A possible solution would be to keep Thunderbird and your personal profile on your PC at home, but create a USB / flash drive with a copy of Portable Thunderbird and your work profile installed. You could connect that to your work PC or laptop or even your home PC if needed. There is no risk that the copy of Thunderbird installed on your home computer will ever use the working profile on the USB / flash drive, because it does not even know it exists (it is not registered in profiles.ini). Portable Thunderbird only knows the profile stored on the USB / flash drive (it actually has no concept of multiple profiles), so there is no risk that it will ever use the personal profile on your home PC.

A second version of Thunderbird is not a recommended installation, it comes out on the same profile properties on your computer machine.

But it is possible. It could cause add on error or failure.

use a good antivirus.

You can install TB 68 (32-bit version recommended) on your computer, as long as you choose a different folder in Program Files (x86), to not overwrite the existing TB 2. When you start TB 68, it will either read the existing profile folder that has been used by TB 2, or it will create a new profile and open as if it has been installed on a new computer. The reason I can't predict exactly what will happen is one of the issues currently being 'worked on' as 68 is being slowly released to the wider user base.

If the second outcome happens, the new profile, you can go ahead and add accounts. The profile for TB 2 is unaffected and you can launch TB 2 in that profile. Data from the 2 profile can be transferred to the 68 profile piece by piece.

If 68 opened with the old profile, you might need to repair some folders that appear empty (right-click, Properties, Repair Folder), but otherwise the accounts should be recognized. But due to changes in TB 68, it would not be so simple to run TB 2 in that profile, once it's been opened by 68.

Not to overcomplicate things, but the best method, one that would guarantee no interference between the old and new TB, would be to run the Profile Manager at the first run of 68, and select the new profile (...default-release) if it has been created, and if not, create a new profile separate from the one used by TB 2 (....default). To run the Profile Manager, Winkey+R and enter

C:\Program Files (x86)\Thunderbird68\thunderbird.exe -p

You may have a different name than Thunderbird68.

The basics sdimple way is to have the two versions installed in their own separate folders and the have each start with their own specific Profile. Do not share a Profile between the current and ancient versions.

That is for Firefox as the article for Thunderbird is https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/using-multiple-profiles

I think you mean Thunderbird Volunteer ;) as you have not posted in the desktop Firefox section for almost fourteen months now.

We had a add-on. It s out of date.

https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/profile-switcher/ This one is for Thunderbird 68.0.

Its not what you’re asking for but maybe useful.

Thank you for using Thunderbird Greetings Firefox Volunteer.
