When I update from Thunderbird 1.0.2 to a modern version, stored emails in some of my folders either get corrupted or the contents of the email are blank

Hi, Thanks in anticipation to everyone who might help me. I have used Thunderbird 1.0.2 ever since Outlook Express was discontinued by Microsoft. Until recently, Thunderbird was installed on a Windows 7 PC but is now installed on a Windows 10 PC. In the past I have made a few attempts to update Thunderbird to an up to date version but each time I tried, I had problems with corrupted content in my numerous Thunderbird Folders. I have a comprehensive filing system for saved emails. I tried again to upgrade Thunderbird when I recently upgraded Windows 7 to Windows 10. I thought the upgrade to Version 68.2.2 was successfull until this morning when I realised many of my email folders appeared empty. I uninstalled 68.2.2 and re-installed 1.0.2 and all my folders are now populated. Any ideas? Thanks

Thanks Danny Colin. I should have done more research, on reflection, before posting the question. Your solution may well have worked but there were a lot of versions to go through and it could have been very time consuming. I appear to have solved the problem as follows:- 1. I installed version 68.2.2 (32 bit) over version 1.0.2. 2. That left some folders complete, some folders empty, some folders with some emaols blank, some folders with emails of random characters and some folders with a mix of complete emails, blank emails and random character emails. 3. I went through each folder one by one and if the folder contained defective emails, I deleted its approprate msf file and allowed Thunderbird to regenerate it. That proceedure appears to have solved the problem.

Since Thunderbird 1.0.2 is very old (circa 2005), I'd recommend you to do an incremental update to avoid your profile being corrupted. By that, I mean updating from 1 to 2 to 3 and so on. You can probably skip a few version when there's a ESR but make sure to read the release notes before skipping any version.

Here's the links for both the release notes and older versions of Thunderbird:
