I have selected and am using the Password Manager, but it makes no difference.

Here is a fix I found for what may be the same problem. I have my Google calendar credentials stored in the password manager. Upon updating to 68.2.1, my provider for Google Calendar add-on had Google asking me to log in and give permissions for my calendar every time I started Thunderbird or touched a Lightning calendar item, e.g. dismissing a reminder. Entering the user name, password, and permissions apparently had no effect.
This worked for me: Tools -> Options -> Advanced (on the left hand list now) - Config Editor... Enter in the search: general.useragent.compatMode.firefox Double-click the entry to toggle it to true.
Everything is back to normal now.
Provider 68.2.1 add-on available which fixes this:

The preference switch may still be needed for TB 60 users, even though TB 60.9.1 has been released to fix the IMAP OAuth2 issue.
