Access to the file was denied...not readable. It may have been removed, moved, or file permissions may be preventing access. (local folder)
Hi all,
Out of a sudden, my Thunderbird was not able to open email in Inbox while the rest of the sub-folders are fine. As a result, I was also NOT able to download new email as well, because those new email are not able to download to Inbox under Local Folder either. Take a look at the screenshot attached for details.
Thanks for the attention.
regards
William

Your screen shot is missing
Thanks Wayne. That's what I thought too. But the files are still there. Other folders in the same Local Folder can be read except the "Inbox". What else I can check ? Can I rebuild the inbox ? I tried rename the Inbox.msf to Inbox.msf.bak to let it rebuild the index but doesn't help either.
Any checklist I can reference for what I need to check ?
Screenshot included this time.
Check and list the file attributes - might be read only, hidden, etc
Thanks Wayne. I check again and confirmed that my Inbox file are not locked, as shown in the screenshot below.
However, the Local Folder itself, has the read-only button was checked and grey out. I tried to uncheck it and apply. It will come back on again. Not sure if this is related though as other files in the same folder are readable from Thunderbird.
Any suggestion ?
Some questions:
- Inbox file shows created Apr 20. Was it compacted or repaired?
- What are the file permissions of Inbox.msf?
- Are you using Global inbox, where multiple pop accounts use the same Inbox?
Hi Wayne,
- Inbox file shows created Apr 20. Was it compacted or repaired?
- No. Didn't touch it before or after the incident happen.
- What are the file permissions of Inbox.msf?
- Normal. Not read-only, nor Hidden.
- Are you using Global inbox, where multiple pop accounts use the same Inbox?
- Not sure what is Global Inbox but yes, I do have multiple POP3 accounts using the same inbox.
Worst come to worst, is there a way I can create a new local folder and Inbox ?

I don't understand why but this is apparently normal, per https://superuser.com/a/1075797/763805 i

I suspect that would be hard.
I will attempt to bring someone else on board to this issue.
