Parent lock always there even if TB is not running
Hello, I tried to help one of my friends and installed on its Win 7 laptop Thunderbird and started to enter her E-mail accounts but face a problem with her Gmail account. Her address format is: annnnaaaaaaa@gmail.com where n are numeric characters and a are alphabetic Characters. Her password format is: nnA@naaaaaa where n stands for a numeric character, A stands for an upper case alphabetic character and a again for a lower case alphabetic character and @ is the original special character. When I define this Thunderbird account and click on continue after having selected IMAP the verification procedure starts and takes a lot of time and finally I get an error message I get an error notification telling me that the configuration can't be verified--- an error for the identifier or the pass word. Of coursethere could be a typing error but as I tried the operation over 10 times that is not possible; I tried the same operation even several times on 4 different PC's. It may be all is ok but gmail is blocking you, so try this.
Logon to gmail webmail account via browser and select to use 'less secure apps' in order to get past the initial setup. Info here: https://support.google.com/accounts/answer/6010255?hl=en
Then in thunderbird create the imap account and make sure to select the option to remember passwords.
It should auto setup to use 'OAuth2' as authentication. You will then be directed to logon to gmail in a browser, just to prove you really are you. then a token is created and auto installed into thunderbird where it will be used instead of the password.
