Lightning extension isn't launching on pc behind firewall - no error messages; works fine elsewhere

At my new place of business, part of the cybersecurity system requires new removable/portable storage be encrypted or remain Read Only. Thunderbird wouldn't work with Read/Write disabled so I allowed the system to encrypt the flash drive that I have my Thunderbird installed on. The Thunderbird app appears to work exactly as it did before. But the Lightning extension doesn't. At my home computer Lightning still appears to work exactly as it did before the encryption, but at my work computer it doesn't launch. It doesn't produce any error messages, just quietly refuses to launch. The only difference between my work environment and home environment that I'm aware of is the firewall at work.

Still not solved, BUT - I have a work-around, although it's clunky.

At my last employer I had a Windows 10 Dell laptop (at home I have a Windows 7 Dell Optiplex). I was able to launch Thunderbird on either machine and Lightning would be there with no issues.

My new employer has provided me with a Windows 10 Lenovo ThinkPad, and I can't get Lightning to show up on both machines like before. What I have to do is disable it, restart Thunderbird on the machine I want to work on, enable Lightning, and then restart Thunderbird again.

It works, but it sure isn't pretty.

Any suggestions on how I can get the same kind of 'plug and play' performance using the Lenovo that I had with the Dell?

I believe I've ruled out the firewall as having any role in the problem. The problem exists on the new computer regardless of whether it's at work behind the firewall, at home on the VPN, or at home connected to my wired internet via my wifi router.

So the problem is on the new computer which runs Windows10. If it hadn't worked perfectly on my last employer provided laptop which also ran Windows10, I'd just blame it on incompatibility with the OS. But since I know it ran fine on my last Windows10, I'm looking for something else.

I don't know a heck of a lot about the Windows OS so this could be ridiculous, but now I'm wondering about the registry. Unfortunately I know practically nothing about that. I seem to recall that at least at some time in the past, the command was regedit, I think? But even if it is, I wouldn't know what to look for.

Any chance someone can give me some pointers, and since I'm talking about the registry, some precautions?

Thanks.
