Please let it be known the only way to install many addons for thunderbird 6.0 (Including UK dictionary) is to download an older version and install the add ons quickly before thunderbird updates to the new version again! It took a while for me to work this out and no one seems to be advising to do this. I also did this when changing over from windows live last week when I needed the thunderbird addon to transfer my emails and contacts as that add on also did not work with version 6.0

If you are talking about version 60 and not 6.0 :)
There is a preference you can change. Info stated in the version 60 release notes:
IMPORTANT: Add-ons not marked as compatible with Thunderbird 60 by their authors will be disabled (this can be reverted via preference extensions.strictCompatibility)
'Menu icon' > 'Options' > ' Options' > 'Advanced' > 'General' tab click on 'Config Editor' button It will say be careful :) In top search type: s.strict Look for line: extensions.strictCompatibility
doubel click on that line to toggle the Value from True to False
