Thunderbird with Windows 7 Laptop.

Is anybody familiar with this problem? I select a message, press delete and not only does Thunderbird crash, it freezes the whole computer. When I try to re-start the PC, it comes up with error message, saying that a software malfunction or something like that prevented it from starting (loud bleeping when booting up).

It does not happen with any other programme.

Is Thunderbird damaging my computer?

Does it crash, or freeze (not responding)? There is a difference between the two.

If it crashes, can you provide a crash ID? https://support.mozilla.org/kb/mozilla-crash-reporter-tb#w_viewing-crash-reports

If it's not responding, what is your anti-virus software?

I somehow doubt that this is related to Thunderbird. Can you post a screenshot? https://support.mozilla.org/kb/how-do-i-create-screenshot-my-problem

Thanks,

It just freezes the computer so I do not know if Thunderbird is crashing. I assume so. I cannot provide a screen shot of the 'crash' as all it happens is that the computer stops respoding without an error message.

It really only happens with Thunderbird. With other programmes they do not freeze the PC or make all other programmes stop responding.

I can try and get screen shots of the warning messages I get when re-starting th computer and bring them here.

I am using Zonealarm virus software.

Sorry I had not answered as I was observing Thunderbird's behaviour and then I could not log on to Mozilla.

On my other question about all the Mozilla products failing, somebody showed me how to start Thunderbird in safe mode by pressing Shift as I click on Thunderbird. So I have been using Thunderbird like this. The icons and buttons have come back and I can still send and receive messages.

However, the problem of Thunderbird freezing and crashing the whole computer when clicking messages and pressing to delete still happens at random. When I restart the computer it gives me the warning messages and asks me if I want to proceed with the Windows 'repair' pocedure (previous state return) which I do not do anymore as it makes my PC worse. Going back to a previous state is only a loop anyway.

My question was specific: have the updates, for Wondows 8 to 10 made the Mozilla products useless with Windows 7?

I think it is evident I did. The problem is still there.

This suggests that you have an addon that is causing problems.

Something other than Thunderbird is likely causing this problem. Did it go away when you started Windows in safe mode?

No, they are generally quite usable. However, https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1157874 suggests you have a serious hardware or driver issue. That should be the first focus to be resolved

No idea where to start looking.

I cannot start the computer in safe mode, it does not let me.

It is not the Thunderbird add ons as they get disabled when I start Thunderbird in safe mode.
