I wish to my E mail to be delited from the server once I have downloaded it & not to have my folders showing on the server , I use I map .
I do not wish my e mail files to be shown on the server . using Thunder bird / mac 10.11.4

Create your storage folders in the Local Folders account in Thunderbird and move your mail to those folders from the Inbox. Then only your Inbox will be synchronised with the server. But whatever messages are in your Inbox are also on the server because that's how IMAP works.

I suggest you read up on how IMAP works and is different from POP. From your question you might be in for some surprises when using server based IMAP.
