v44 crashing
Firefox v44 is crashing constantly on me and I have very little proof or information to send to you.
I updated to 44 two days ago when it was released, though I don't think I restarted FF until I closed the machine and started it up the next day. As soon as I did, things got very odd. The program would open and all my tabs would return in their appropriate tab groups, but very few were loading. Ones that had cached data available appeared to load, but many didn't. Two pinned tabs would not load.
I closed my browser, and Windows 7 generated its standard "program didn't close successfully" message, but with minimal details.
This would continue sporatically most of the night. I could start FF and if it loaded and worked I could use it. I thought it might be my tabs, so I closed all my tab groups and it seemed to get more stable until I returned to it today when it stopped working again.
For a while it seemed that if I used firefox safe mode it would work and then one time I used safe mode and it did not.
I looked in all the places I know of to look for crash information, in about:crashes and in the home folders for FF in the appdata directories, but all dumps were either old or contained no data.
I finally reverted to V42 because I need a functioning browser. I know that doesn't help me help you troubleshoot but... I need to get things done. I can attempt to update later if I get specific questions.
I wish I had more information to provide.

hi, can you please see if uninstalling firefox first and then installing the 64bit version from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/ does solve this issue for you?

I uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times, as well as blew away my entire profile while uninstalling. The installer I used was the one that downloaded as "Firefox Setup Stub 44.0.exe".
Is that the same as installing the x64 version?

no, please go specifically for the Windows 64-bit installer on the download page i've linked to...
In the 5 minutes of closing and re-opening the program it appears to have worked. I'll give it another 30 minutes or so before marking it resolved because it has tricked me before.
Thank you.
May I ask what happened? Did I install the 32 bit version forever ago and the updates never changed it? Could the fact that I recently went from 8 gigs of RAM to 24 GB mean anything?
it shouldn't be related to a ram upgrade. i suspect that it might be the same issue that is discussed in bug 1243765, but the root causes of this are still rather puzzling for me to this moment...
It has not crashed again in repeated closings and openings and other attempts to break it.
Thank you very much for your help.
great, thanks for following up!
Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.
