It's taken me almost an hour to get to this point. I am technologically challenged. I have an old version of Firefox. The instructions immediately launch into the "Firefox Window" but says nothing about how to get to this window. Where is this window? Maybe I should just download Opera?

"Firefox Window" means Firefox, it's the window that appears when Firefox is opened.

You should follow the directions at Update Firefox to the latest release to update to Firefox 33.0.2 (read down the page to see the screenshots). This will bring you to the most recent version of Firefox and then we can help you with any other issues you are having with Firefox.

What instructions are you talking about and what do you want to accomplish?

Note that it is not safe to use such an outdated Firefox version that has known disclosed security vulnerabilities, so please update to the current Firefox 33 release.

  • Help > About Firefox

You can use one of these to start Firefox in Safe Mode:

  • On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
  • On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
  • Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Firefox 22 had a choice of two menu systems:

  • Menu bar (File, Edit, View...)
  • Compact menu accessed using an orange button labeled Firefox in the upper left corner

Perhaps the instructions you are reading are referring to the orange Firefox button??

Note that in Firefox 33, the orange Firefox button no longer exists. There is now a button with 3 horizontal bars on the main toolbar which displays a drop-down menu. If you prefer the Menu bar, you can display that, too.

Thank you for the response, but what menu bar? What orange button? How do you make these things appear?

Firefox' instructions for an upgrade. There is a constant line on the top of the screen

"This version of Firefox is no longer supported. Please upgrade to a supported browser. Dismiss"

When I click on "upgrade" taken to Firefox. When I click on "Download" a page comes up that says "It looks like" I have an old version and an upgrade icon. When I click on this, instructions come up that first say Firefox should upgrade on its own, but if I want to manually upgrade . . .

It then starts off with this mythical window that, actually, even technology savvy people are not aware of.

I feel I should apologize to everyone. I simply didn't understand the symbols being used in the Upgrade. The Menu is the button in the tool bar with three horizontal lines. I really feel embarrassed and beyond stoopit. My apologies and thanks.
