These two comparison are made between Firefox 158.0 (64 bit) in Troubleshoot Mode and Brave 1.97.59 (64 bit), on Windows 10, version 22H2. I use the 30MB Big Buck Bunny version on test-videos.co.uk site, Firefox seems able to load the 1MB, or 2MB version pretty smoothly, but higher than that, it starts to stutter, for some reasons I cannot understand.

(Most results I can find online tell me to "disable hardware acceleration", but I have been turning that setting on and off multiple times without seeing any changes)

Ironically, videos on Youtube can load normally without issues. It just seems any embedded videos would behave oddly like this, which I encounter most often on Discord.

Please, I would appreciate any insights. I can provide additional information if needed. Thanks in advance.

The top row in Firefox browser doesn't have any tabs, it looks as pictured in screenshot (Chrome below for comparison). I only see the icon and text for a page, but that isn't enough to know clickable area, and it makes it unintuitive.

I tried several browser themes but none of them changes this. There doesn't seem to be a setting for hardware acceleration anymore that used to solve it for some users in the past based on a search on topic.

Maybe this really is how it's meant to look but the design just went backwards from what we want to see; tabs are no longer tabs but something vague. Can never please everyone i suppose, but i want old back.

Hello, I used to have the VPN button but now I don't. I'm on Firefox v158.0 in the USA, on my personal laptop (so no enterprise policies to interfere). Here's what I've tried:

• Customize toolbar: no, the icon isn't in there either
• Start Firefox in Troubleshooting Mode
• Refresh Firefox
• Ensure "Allow Firefox to improve features, performance, and stability between updates" is on
• Sign out and back in to my Mozilla/Firefox account

I miss this feature already because it makes me feel better about using public wifi. What else can I try?

Hi, I’m having trouble playing Prime Video in Firefox on my 2023 MacBook Pro. The video freezes, or I get a “Video unavailable” message. It happens both on primevideo.com and when I open Prime Video from Amazon’s website.

Prime Video plays normally in Safari on the same Mac. In Firefox, I’ve tried restarting my Mac and router, turning off my VPN, testing in a Private Window and Troubleshoot Mode, and updating Firefox. “Play DRM-controlled content” is enabled, and Widevine Content Decryption Module is listed and enabled. I also found that media.eme.enabled was set to false and changed it to true, but the problem remains.

Could you help me determine why Prime Video won’t play in Firefox and what I should try next?

No videos play. I created a brand new fresh profile, but that didn't help. It seems like maybe there was a recent update, because they worked before.

On tubi it says the widevine crashed and I submitted a crash report for it.

I am unable to uninstall firefox from the computer because I don't have permissions to do that.

I was hoping someone would have a simple suggestion that could fix it.

I should have the right to choose the downloads I want to keep, Instead, I get no choice! Look, I appreciate the safety and protection You give me, but I just get used to the system, and, a new download has arrived, and I'm not sure I want, or need it! I want that option, Please! I had SecureIE for many years, and I found it to be the best Browser available. If I could get it for w-10, I would! I'm not angry, just dissapointed!

How can I prevent other sources from bypassing my Firefox/Mozilla downloads and installations? I once had a secure Firefox account. Now every time I update or reinstate there is a possibility that it will be violated in the future without my direction or approval? HELP

For some reason, the time on my browser (time displayed on Discord and such), is one hour behind the actual time. I never had Resist Fingerprinting enabled and there's no setting anywhere to change it manually.

Tried to uninstall but got message: can't because helper.exe is not in appdata/local/uninstall

found a helper.exe and uninstall map, put it in Mozilla Firefox in local. Now I don't get the message that it can't be found but app is still not uninstalled from programm files.

If I tried to apply hlper.exe by hand, it doen not work.

I always use C Cleaner to clear unneeded my unneeded data once a month. It does not usually affect my Firefox shortcuts on the Firefox homepage. It was also after Firefox had updated to version 158.0 . I did this on Wednesday (14th October) and all of my pinned Firefox shortcuts have gone missing. They have not come back, and no other shortcuts are being shown after I have since visited any websites. What has happened to them? Will this be corrected? Regards John

Lorsque j'ai activé les thèmes contrastés (Aquatique, Crépuscule, Ciel nocturne et Desert ) avec Windows 11 26H2, Firefox 158 s'est retrouvé avec ma page d’accueil personnalisée désactivée. J'ai essayer de la reparamétrée mais impossible : la page reste juste avec le nom Firefox et le champ de recherche sans le bouton de personaliser. J'ai l’extension "Dark Reader" qui s'est aussi désactivé. Tout est revenu à la normale après désactivation des thèmes contrastés. Cordialement.

Once again the latest firefox browser has issues so I rolled back the last stable version. It keeps prompting me to create a new profile. I want to use the previous profile that has all my setting and bookmarks. I got to about:profiles and selected the profile i want to make default and it will not add it to firefox. How can I do this?

This may be an old problem. In Linux, in bookmarks library, the scrollbar thumbs behave differently than in browser web pages. Even in new profile. This isn't a new issue for v157. Same behavior in any theme (any Fx themes, and / or diff 'Nix system themes).

I set scrollbars to disappear when not used or being hovered. On sites, when hover scrollbar area, they reappear. AND while pointer is over the track or thumb, it remains visible - does not reduce to an unusable width or disappear completely. As I think it should.

But in bookmarks library, the track & thumb disappear, even w/ pointer hovered, unless thumb is grabbed immediately. Even grabbing thumb & move it, then pause a fraction of second (still gripping thumb w/ L mouse button), the thumb & track STILL disappear. As long as you don't release grip (on now invisible thumb / track) they reappear when move pointer.

The bookmark library scrollbar behavior is also erratic. How long you have to grab it, when you 1st hover it. If you accidentally move pointer from folder pane, past vertical divider into bookmark pane, then left - back into folder pane, the scrollbar doesn't appear.

You have to move pointer well left of scrollbar, then approach it from the R, to make it reappear. It doesn't have any of this behavior in the browser (never has, AFAIK).

Subject: Firefox ESR 153.5.0 — IndexedDB errors, multiple websites failing, MetaMask unable to start

Hello Mozilla Support, I'm experiencing serious problems with Firefox on my Mac and would appreciate help identifying the cause and finding a safe solution. I'm running Firefox ESR 153.5.0 (aarch64). Several unrelated websites have stopped functioning properly in my original Firefox profile: • Yahoo Mail: My inbox appears momentarily, then disappears and displays an error message. • Emory MyChart: The login page fails to load properly. • ChatGPT: The site doesn't fully load, including my conversation history. • MetaMask: My wallet extension fails to start, displaying an error indicating that an operation failed for reasons unrelated to the database itself. These websites work in Chrome. Troubleshooting completed: 1. Confirmed Firefox is up to date and JavaScript is enabled. 2. Disabled Enhanced Tracking Protection and cleared Yahoo-specific cookies and site data, without success. 3. Created a separate Firefox TEST profile. The affected websites load successfully in that profile. 4. Examined the Browser Console in my original profile and found multiple IndexedDB errors reporting: UnknownError — Directory Lock Failed — ActorsParent.cpp:15521 5. Confirmed that these errors persist even when the TEST profile is closed. 6. Restarted Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode, with extensions temporarily disabled. Yahoo Mail continued to fail in exactly the same way. Possible relevance of the recent Firefox update I understand that Firefox ESR 153.5.0 was released recently and included changes relating to IndexedDB. Could these changes be related to the problems I'm experiencing, or could there be an existing storage issue affecting my original profile? My primary concern is MetaMask. I have made a backup copy of my original Firefox profile folder, but I want to avoid any repair procedure that might delete or compromise my wallet's locally stored information. Before attempting a Firefox Refresh, profile reset, extension reinstallation, or storage cleanup, I would appreciate guidance on: • What might cause these IndexedDB directory-lock failures? • Whether Firefox has a diagnostic or repair procedure that could address them without deleting extension data. • Whether this is a known issue with the recent ESR release.

Please know I'm comfortable following step-by-step instructions but am not technically experienced.

In previous versions, this feature supported background operation; however, since the latest update, opening an article in Reeder immediately triggers the browser to launch. Could you please check this in Firefox and restore the previous, more convenient behavior? Having the browser pop up every single time leads to unnecessary switching between tabs.

Each time I power up my laptop I want my page to go straight to my Yahoo Mail. It does do that but it also tries to open another page that errors out. I think its because there's a 'c in the address and the file can't be found. I don't know how that filename got written into the Start Up Program and I can't find it to remove it. Please tell me like a First Grader how to remove this error message.
