PASSWORDS NOT Being Saved: Not saving History -- check your settings for Tools > options > Privacy', make sure you are not clearing more than just cache in "Settings for Clearing History"

• clearing your history at end of session, cache is the only one you would want to clear at end of session, if you don't want to lose things

There are several things that are related to private browsing and not saving History

• Private Browsing Ctrl+Shift+P
• You selected "Never remember history" in first drop-down of Tools > Options Privacy and all of the check marks disappear (See picture above)
• "Permanent private browsing mode" was check-marked under "Use custom settings for history" in the first drop-down of Tools > options > Privacy (see picture above)

Also in Tools > Options > Security, make sure you have check-marked "Remember passwords for sites", anythings listed in Exceptions will not be saved.

Firefox 3.5 and later won't offer to store a new password if you are in a Private Browsing mode session. One way to enter Private Browsing mode is if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History". You also see a, possibly grayed, "Tools > Stop Private Browsing" menu entry if you are currently in Private Browsing mode. To leave permanent Private Browsing mode go to "Tools > Options > Privacy" and choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history and uncheck "Automatically start Firefox in a private browsing session".
