I need to selectively keep cookies from certain sites. IE can do that, can Firefox?

Some sites have new validation procedures where they display a picture on the log in page. The picture is stored sometimes as a cookie on the particular machine (Yahoo does this). I have my security settings to delete all cookies on exit so the saved security cookie is deleted. I want to selectively tell Firefox to not delete this cookie but still delete all other ones. Can this be done?

  • Let all cookies expire when you close Firefox.
  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Keep until": "I close Firefox"
  • Make an Allow exception for the ones that you want to keep.
  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Exceptions"

You can inspect and modify the permissions for the domain in the current tab in "Tools > Page Info > Permissions"

Make sure that you do not use Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences" (Site Preferences includes the cookie exceptions)

Clearing cookies will remove all specified (selected) cookies including cookies that have an allow exception.

Thank you cor-el. There was one other thing I had to do. Must uncheck cookies and site preferences in "Clear history when Firefox closes." and "Clear recent history." To make this work for Yahoo I had to allow cookies from yahoo.com and yahoo.net.
