How can I make my events and tasks private by default?

I just synced my calendar with my phone over CalDav, but I noticed that whenever I add a task or event, it's listed as 'public' by default. the options are to show 'public', 'show time and date only', or 'private event'.

I haven't shared my caldav calendar with anyone, and when I access it, either through the calendar client or from a browser, it is password-protected. So I guess I have two questions: 1) what does this privacy designation actually mean in reality and 2) how do I set a default privacy setting?

The designation is basically meaningless in the context of lightning. as it is not shared and can not be shared.

When it becomes relevant is if you share your linked calendar on say Google. My observation is most folk do not share their calendars outside of work and really if you are sharing on google you would most likely only share as free/busy. Not details of events anyway.
