Lenovo Laptop: Firefox ridiculously slow to open, hangs with "unresponsive script"
I have a Lenovo E530 laptop, running Windows 7 Professional that I've been using with Firefox since March 2013.
In December 2013, I started having trouble with Firefox not opening up. I would click on the icon, it would briefly highlight and the mouse pointer would spin like it was opening, then the icon and the mouse pointer would return to the idle state.
Looking at the Task Manager showed firefox.exe running under processes, but nothing under applications.
In the process of troubleshooting, I discovered that Firefox would eventually come up after 5 or more minutes and hang displaying the "unresponsive script" dialog. I tried stopping the script, but didn't have the patience to give it another 5 or minutes to respond.
I ran through some standard troubleshooting steps and then started searching forums to see if anyone else had seen similar issues (they had) and have made the following attempts to resolve the issue.
Google Chrome and Internet Explorer behaved normally.
Shutting down and restarting the laptop did not resolve the issue.
Starting Firefox in safe mode did not resolve the issue.
Creating a new Firefox profile did not resolve the issue.
Doing a clean installation of Firefox and not installing any add-ons or plug-ins did not resolve the problem.
Uninstalling Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight and QuickTime did not resolve the issue.
Disabling the fingerprint reader (which was not configured or used) did not resolve the issue.
Today, I tried updating the driver for the fingerprint reader. I was running a driver dated Feb 27, 2013 and replaced it with the driver currently on the Lenovo support sited (dated Sep 9, 2013).
Prior to updating the driver, Firefox was misbehaving as previously described. After the update and restart, without any changes to FIrefox, Firefox is now starting normally.

Troubleshooting is what I do for a living. I try to avoid it outside of work. All work, no play and all that.
That being said, when I find definitive solutions, I will try to post them here for others to see.
As I mentioned the solutions under https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/warning-unresponsive-script did not address my problem.
Fixed it by updating the "Lenovo Fingerprint Read/Password Vault for Windows" driver and software to version 6.0.200.105 date 2 Sep 2013.
If you need to determine the "Machine Type" and "Model" for you Lenovo laptop go to: Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Information : "System Model". For my Thinkpad Edge E530 the first 4 digits were the Machine Type, the last 3 digits were the Model.
I had previously disabled the fingerprint reader: Start->Control Panel->Hardware and Sound->Biometric Devices->Change Settings : "Biometrics Off"
