how do I restore tabs and open windows after most recent update?

After being nagged to update to the latest version of Firefox, i did so thinking all the windows and tabs would be restored. I have been thru multiple updates with with no problems in the past. I have been through most of the self help but nothing works. The restore last session is greyed out. 

I do not speak geek.
