Mozilla will not open after it automatically downloaded the newest version: Firefox Setup Stub 53.0.3. What's going on?

Mozilla automatically updated on my laptop (Dell) to Firefox version 53.0.3. After downloading/installing, Firefox would not open, and gave an error message of needing to delete a shortcut. I deleted all Mozilla files and icons (EXCEPT the last version of Mozilla in case I needed to reload that). I re-downloaded version 53.0.3 and I had the same problems. I reinstalled version 52.0.2, but obviously would rather have the updated version because of any security updates that may exist.

Is anyone else having this problem? What should I do?

The forum software is picking up that you are apparently using the beta version of Firefox, but if that is the cases it is an old outdated beta. It would be more usual to use the current Release which is Fx53.0.3 as you mentioned.

Try starting Firefox in its safe mode, by for instance holding down the shift key whilst clicking on the icon.

I am not sure what is generating the error message you see. Are you able to post a screenshot of the error message if and when you try again to install Firefox Release.

Please post a copy of your Troubleshooting Information Page. Please paste that in to your next reply. That may contain rather a lot of information, if it includes print related information please edit that out to save room.
