Every time I update Thunderbird to the latest version, my calendar (Lightning) disappears.

So each time, I have to go to "Get Add-ons" and add it again. Thankfully, so far, all my calendar items have reappeared each time.

On June 1, 2016, I updated to Thunderbird 45.1.1 and, as usual, the calendar disappeared.

However, this time, I'm not able to add it back.

When I go to "Get Add-ons" in Thunderbird and select "Lightning" and click on "Add to Thunderbird" I get an error message that says: "The add-on could not be downloaded because of a connection failure on services.addons.mozilla.org."

When I go to the web site listed on the Lightning page, http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/ and click on the "Lightning 4.7" download button, I get an error message that says: "Secure Connection Failed. An error occurred during a connection to addons.cdn.mozilla.net. SSL received a record with an incorrect Message Authentication Code. Error code: SSL_ERROR_BAD_MAC_READ"

Can anyone explain why this is happening and/or when it will be fixed? I'm flying blind without my calendar and am eager to get it back.

Thanks.

See this answer for Firefox. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/982298 It applies to both Firefox and Thunderbird.

Also Verify that the date and time settings on your computer are correct To verify that your computer is configured with the correct date and time settings, follow these steps:

  • Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
  • Click Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options, and then click Date and Time.
  • Click the Date & Time tab.
  • Make sure that the date and time settings are configured to use the current date and time, and then click OK.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the suggestions. I have checked my computer date and time and it is correct.

I changed the settings in Firefox: Tools > Options > Advanced > Network : Connection > Settings as suggested by the link you posted. I tried "no proxy," "auto detect proxy settings," and "use system proxy settings." None of them enabled me to access the download for Lightning from http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/

The error message when I click on the Lightning download button has now changed to SSL_ERROR_RX_RECORD_TOO_LONG.

The problem is not limited to Firefox. I can't access the Lightning download in Chrome or Internet Explorer either. However, I am not having trouble accessing any other site and this is the first time I have not been able to download Lightning.

I'm open to other ideas if you, or anyone else, has another suggestion.

Thanks!

Change the same settings in the same location in Thunderbird.

Disable your anti virus (just to test) These sorts of error usually have something to do with a proxy... and anti virus programs often place themselves in the role of proxy.

Hi Matt,

Thanks for the ongoing support. Changing the settings in Thunderbird did not help. Nor did disabling the anti-virus program (a test of last resort). I still had the same issue after both those changes.

However, after making all those changes, I moved on to updating Windows 7 with the latest updates and now I can access the download for Lightning. Is there something in Windows 7 that acts like a proxy?

Thanks!
