why when I download from iPlayer it immediately opens up masses of tabs
I am afraid that my technical knowledge is limited so at some point when downloading iPlayer it asked a question about file association which stumped me. After pondering for some time I decided to associate it with Firefox, this was a mistake. It resulted in when I tried to download a TV programme from iPlayer it literally opened several tabs a second. I un-installed iPlayer and downloaded it again and it never this time asked any question about file association. It downloaded correctly, but it still displayed the fault in question, the ever multiplying tabs.
Firefox is my default browser and I am running the computer on Windows 8.1 64 byte. For purposes of downloading I use IDM.
I would be most grateful for your help in this matter.
Regards,
John Daniels

You get tabs opening endlessly if you select the Firefox program to handle a file when you get an "Open with" dialog.
You will have to undo this choice. If you can't do this via "Tools > Options > Applications" then you will have to delete the mimeTypes.rdf file in the Firefox profile folder to reset all download actions.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
