Firefox sync, I had to register for the second time using the same email id. After second registration, the new one and the old one do not sync. ????

I am using firefox sync for more than a year. Last week, when I tried to set up sync on my work computer, it tells me that the email id is unknown and to register. Anyway I registered. But it is starting from scratch. None of my old stuff synced to this PC. In my home computer I am using the same email id, and it has all the data. It is still syncing the data to the server. At least I think it does. Because I have not seen any Sync errors in my home computer.

I want to know, how can I login with the same email id in two different computers, but have different data in each.

Hi martinslmn,

The new sync "about:accounts" in version 29 will not have the same account information, as they are independent of one another.

Unfortunately with the old sync, both computers would have the same data. There was an option to merge data, or deselect certain items to sync but not sync both unfortunately.

In Firefox version 29 sync is coming and is being improved at the moment, let us know your feedback as well.

I"m not sure if I have the same exact problem yet or not. I didn't try to force them to sync, but I have my Desktop PC logged in to Firefox Sync (it shows me logged in and I can click on MANAGE). I just got a new Laptop and I tried to log in and and I couldn't, even though I already was logged into it on Desktop. I tried to get reset password link and Firefox would tell me I don't exist. So I created another account using the same email address and password on my laptop, as the one on Desktop. I tried to Sync and it won't sync. I was thinking on Coping my hidden files on my Desktop, in the appdata folder and pasting them into the same folder on my laptop for now, just to get them to be in sync, but that defeats the sync process....I suppose I can just delete the first account, but that might delete the one I just created.

Any ideas?

If you are running Firefox 29, with the new version of Sync, see this KB article - Sync your Firefox bookmarks, history, passwords and more

Do that before trying to add a new device.
