How can I change my mailto setting to Gmail when my mailto options only list "Windows Live Mail (Default)" and "Other"?
I've tried this (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-program-used-open-email-links#w_setting-firefoxs-mail-client) and this (http://updates.html5rocks.com/2012/02/Getting-Gmail-to-handle-all-mailto-links-with-registerProtocolHandler) with no luck.

I've also gone into about:config and set gecko.handlerService.allowRegisterFromDifferentHost to true. Still no luck.

hello, gmail should be one of the predefined actions for the mailto-protocol. does it shop up when you try the following?:
go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information, click on profile folder/show folder and close all firefox windows afterwards. a windows explorer window should open up - in there rename/delete the file named mimetypes.rdf - it will be regenerated again the next time you launch the browser.
