I am hoping someone can help... I am having problems logging into some websites. I enter my log-in details, but instead of being allowed into the website, I get looped back to the welcome screen. If I try logging on again, the same thing happens. It isn't every website, for example Facebook and Twitter work ok. But Ancestry.com and Ancestry.co.uk don't work. Have never had this problem before (am a long time user of Firefox on Macs) but this issue started around 10 days ago (can remember browsing Ancestry on 1st December, but not since).

I've tried all the suggestions on the site I can find - deleted cookies, cleared my cache, deleted browsing history, re-installed Firefox and Shockwave. Nothing works. Am now totally stumped. Any suggestions as to how I can get Firefox and Ancestry to work together again.

All my plugins are up-to-date. I have removed almost all add-ons. JavaApplet and Shockwave plugins are installed and enabled.

Hello stumpweasel, if you don't already do, try to delete the cookies.sqlite file and any cookies.sqlite-journal files in profile folder(in case cookies are corrupted), see how to do that : Remove corrupt cookies file

if the above doesn't work, check it in Safe Mode, in Safe Mode window select "Start in Safe Mode" and see if this happen again, if not see: Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems

thank you

ideato Thanks for the suggestions, I've deleted the cookie files - sorry to say doesn't seem to be the answer.

I've tried running Firefox in safe mode. I've deleted and re-installed all my plug-ins. No joy.

So, I tried to reset FireFox, then I tried deleting my profile. I still cannot access any of the problematic websites. Am now not sure where to go next.

Would welcome any thoughts...

If you have firewall enable, disable and check it, or see if the firewall blocks the specific sites, check also the same if you have other security software(antivirus etc.)

thanks again

Hi I've tried turning off the Firewalll, and disabling the anti-virus software but this doesn't solve the problem. Tried a website I don't visit often, got a message saying "This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies." But Firefox is set to accept cookies & 3rd party cookies.

Whatever has gone wrong, it's happened in the last 3 weeks. I haven't installed any new software, or changed any of my settings - however I have upgraded Firefox & downloaded whatever security updates Apple and Microsoft have rolled out.

Am wondering if it is simply the age of my MacBook... has to be 4-5 years old.

Thanks for your help.
