I just bought a brand new machine, xp media center, with latest FFox. I am truly not on drugs here, but it has happened to me several times a week: I clear "everything" every day before shutting down; about two days later, "old" history comes back into my History Tab. I have tried no tabs, no difference, suddenly some of old history comes back as if I visited today, a few "pages" ago, in the middle of what I actually surfed. I had a friend from work come over and it happened to him too.

Which security software do you have?

It is possible that your security software restores a backup of sessionstore.js or other files in the Firefox Profile Folder

Are you restoring tabs automatically or via Save and Quit?

Tools > Options > General|Main > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": "Show my windows and tabs from last time"
