Turning off Mozilla VPN on MacOS Big Sur, Firefox 87 removes internet connectivity

more options

Hi,

If I use the toggle button in the VPN app to turn off VPN (as per here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/turn-on-mozilla-vpn-desktop-computer), Firefox won't connect to the internet. Restarting the Mac doesn't help.

Hi there,

We're sorry for the inconvenience. There is an ongoing issue on the VPN for macOS that stems from the system overwriting their previously set DNS settings.

To fix this, go ahead and uninstall the VPN from your computer, then go to System preferences > Network > Wi-fi (make sure to remove the lock in order to be able to make changes) > Advanced > DNS, and if DNS server 10.64.0.1 is showing remove it from the list, as well as fc00:bbbb:bbbb:bb01::1. That should fix your internet connection, then try reinstalling the VPN again and it should work normally.

Rest assured, this issue will be corrected on the next macOS release.

Best regards, M
