Yesterday this issue arose where when I would run Firefox it would open then close within a second. I've tried reinstalling and the same issue arose. I can't seen to start it in safe mode or change profiles. Is there any advice for this?

Some problems occur when your Internet security program was set to trust the previous version of Firefox, but no longer recognizes your updated version as trusted. Now how to fix the problem: To allow Firefox to connect to the Internet again;

  • Make sure your Internet security software is up-to-date (i.e. you are running the latest version).
  • Remove Firefox from your program's list of trusted or recognized programs. For detailed instructions, see

You can check for issues caused by a corrupted or incomplete Visual C++ installation that is missing runtime components (Redistributable Packages) required by Firefox, especially VCRUNTIME140_1.dll.

See "Visual Studio 2015, 2017 and 2019":

As far as the firewall suggestion goes, I only have the Windows defender firewall up and running. It was not on the list for allowed programs for the firewall, but adding Firefox to the list did not solve the issue. For the C++ installation I downloaded and ran all three of the latest visual studios and have no luck with it either. Firefox is still opening for just enough for me to see a white box for a second before it closes.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link}

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

Start your Computer in safe mode with network support. Then start Firefox. Try Secure websites. Is the problem still there?

After restarting my computer and running it in safe mode, Firefox did open. I checked if there were any extensions that could have caused my issue but I have none installed. I disabled hardware acceleration and still encounter the same issue when I try to launch it when not in safe mode. Any other things I could try in safe mode?

If the problem goes away with the computer in Safe Mode, the problem is with one of the other programs on the system.

As a test, disable your protection programs.
