You can only set the number of row for items on the Firefox Home page and not a maximum for the number of tiles. If you previously set a maximum then this maximum had been converted to the row maximum.

Semantics. I have amended the program to accept more than the normal 4 rows, I currently have a setting of 8 rows, which gives a total of 64 tiles.

My question however was where was the previous listing of the tiles in the Top Sites stored or did Mozilla just decide to delete them all because it felt like it?

Frustrating GRRRRRRR!!!!!!

Did you pin links (bookmarks or history) to each of the tiles or were they automatically filled with history items ?

The list of pinned tabs in stored in a pref on the about:config page.

Changes made manually on the about:newtab page are stored in prefs that you can find on the about:config page.

• browser.newtabpage.blocked stores websites you have removed by clicking the X button in a tile

I had pinned dozens of sites to the tiles in the previous version.

Now that this update seemed to erase them, I have changed the maximum number of lines to 8 and I have managed to add a few of the sites that I can remember.

When I go into the 'browser.newtabpage.pinned ' listing it has the few sites that I have just managed to list but it has not got the previous ones that were listed before the change.

Before it updated, would it have saved these listings somewhere?

Are you still using the same profile ?

Firefox 67 and later can use a dedicated profile for each of the Firefox update channels and will lock the profile, so it can only be used by Firefox in a specific installation folder. For Release versions this profile would be a xxxxxxxx.default-release profile, profiles used in older Firefox versions usually used a xxxxxxxx.default profile (a refresh adds a time stamp).

You can check the about:profiles page for all registered profile.

I have not knowingly been logged on as a particular profile so I have no idea if i was logged on in this way before.

Is there perhaps a way that Ican check?

Hi Alan, the easiest thing to do is check what is there and what is in them.

Profile Manager Page

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

This page should list at least one profile and could list many. Each will show links to a pair of folders; please ignore those for now. Please don't use any Remove buttons.

The profile that Firefox is currently using will have this:

This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.

Do you have another profile named default or default-longnumber listed on this page? If so, you can check whether it is the one you were using recently by clicking its Launch profile in new browser button.

If it isn't what you want, simply close that new window.

If it IS what you want, back on the about:profiles page, click the Set as default profile button for that profile so Firefox uses it automatically at the next startup.
