What do I need to do so that Thunderbird uses the subscribe and unsubscribe options I set?
I can't get the subscribe and unsubscribe options to remain stable. I have a laptop with windows 10 and a desk top with Linux and Thunderbird for different email addresses coming from an internet domain. On the domain, one email address is filtered to a folder, which has the in-box for parent. Two email addresses go to the inbox. I want Thunderbird on the Windows laptop to download just the child-folder. I want the Linux ThB to download the 2 email addresses so that I can run a filter on the In-box and separate the 2 email addresses. I will then work with local folders.
I have tried Account settings > Advanced features > manage folder subscriptions > unchecking all but the required folders. I have tried both just OK and also Subscribe. I have tried checking the folders I don't want and unsubscribe.
I have tried View settings for this account > synchronisation & Storage > unchecking Keep messages for this account on this computer. Then Advanced > chosse mail folders and newsgroups for offline use. & checking the folders I want to be downloaded.
Whatever I do, doesn't stop the synchronisation.
I thought I'd go through gmail to separate the email addresses, but gmail and thunderbird don't seem to tlak to each other because thunderbird doesn't have a 2 stage authorisation.
I don't want everything synchronised between my computers. I want to download different email addresses to different places.
I hope someone has the answer for me.

It sounds like you have three different e-mail addresses, but only one e-mail account. The other two e-mail addresses have their e-mail forwarded to the one e-mail account.
It would solve all your problems and be much easier to manage if each e-mail address was its own e-mail account (with separate logins), then they would be fully separated. You seem to have control of the domain name and it's hosting, so this would be simple to do.
If you can't do that (or won't for some reason), then you need to do a workaround.
Your problems are that it is not possible to unsubscribe from the Inbox. Nor can you subscribe a child folder without also subscribing the parent.

Create three folders that are on the same level as the Inbox (siblings to the Inbox), one for each e-mail address. Then use the same filtering technique that you mentioned to filter the e-mails to each of these folders.
Then in Thunderbird, you can subscribe or unsubscribe these folders as you like.
Still, it would be much simpler and straightforward to have the e-mail address as their own e-mail accounts.
Thank you that looks like a possible work around. Your question as to why I don't go down the route of more account emails triggered me into realizing that I had been taking the cost as per month not per year. So I have started the process of upgrading to more accounts.
