To see whether this might be caused by one of your cookies, could you try using the bank's site in a private browsing window? Press Ctrl+Shift+p (or use the 3-bar menu button) to launch the window. Any difference?

Is this the web page address?

I don't see any unsupported browser warnings on that page. I even tried logging in (with incorrect login information). The browser requirements page recommends using the latest browser version available.

You have a number of questionable add-ons installed. I suggest you

  1. Uninstall Advanced SystemCare Surfing Protection 1.0, Slick Savings 3.1, Start Page 2.2
  2. Temporarily disable Yahoo! Toolbar 3.2.3.20140326060057
  3. Exit Firefox.
  4. Check your system for malware using the various programs listed in the following article. Be sure to update their definitions databases before scanning.

Just tried it and I can confirm this.
The site http://www.absa.co.za/Absacoza/ of the Absa Bank loads just fine. But when you click the Logon button, there is a pop-up which says "Browser unsupported".
I have do not have the addons mentioned, in fact I just have a few addons. Plus the Logon works just fine with Palemoon browser and also Internet Explorer. So it really is a bug in Chromefox ... ehr, sorry: Firefox 29.

Hi meegja, thanks for the link.

The page is doing this test to see if the browser is Firefox:

(window.controllers && parseInt(navigator.productSub, 10) > 20031001)

window.controllers is undefined according to the web console.

It seems web pages aren't supposed to use it: https://developer.mozilla.org/docs/Web/API/Window.controllers

I found another reference to this being a change in Firefox 29: http://www.marshut.com/iviukp/firefox-29-and-window-controllers.html

So I think the bank will need to update its script.

In the meantime, go ahead and use a different browser for the bank site.

Meega, Or rather it could be a bug with the sites even. Especially if site works fine if you change the useragent to appear as Firefox 28.0. Also it works for Gingerbread Man

Also you are not going to be taken seriously if you keep referring to Firefox 29.0 as Chromefox just because it has some resemblance.

I tested a different link initially, since the OP didn't mention the link and I had to go looking for it.

When I tested the following link, both Firefox and Internet Explorer got a dimmed page and a spinning circle icon that never went away. That's a problem with the site's user agent sniffing. Only they can fix it. Click the "Contact Us" link in the lower left corner.

As a workaround, you can add the following filter to Adblock Plus. It won't get rid of the "Browser Unsupported" nag message, but that seems to just go away after you click it.

ib.absa.co.za###pleasewait[role="alert"]

If you don't have Adblock Plus, you can use the following in Stylish. If you don't have Stylish either, you can use it in the userContent.css file.

@-moz-document domain("ib.absa.co.za") {
  #pleasewait[role="alert"] { display: none !important; }
}

Hopefully the site works correctly after that. I don't have an account there, so I can't test further.

Actually I came across the term Chromefox on multiple other sites. And it suites the look of FF29. But there is a balance then: I (and many others) do not take the horrid FF29 look seriously and call it Chromefox and because of that others do not take me seriously. Fine by me :)

The site also works with an Opera user agent or applewebkit (Google Chrome) user agent as only for gecko browsers check for windows.controllers support.
