Try Information at this link to create a simple Mailing List: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-create-and-use-mailing-lists

This can used to send one email to several people; a group.

If you want to do more, such as personalise the email, so it shows the individual names and sends out one email per person.

You will need to create an email Template and use an Addon called MailMerge.

Download MailMerge addon tool and save to desktop. There is useful help at this link as well.

Install Mail Merge addon: In Thunderbird Tools > Add-ons OR Menu icon > Add-ons

A new tab opens click on the gear wheel icon and select 'Install addon from file' See first image below. Locate the .xpi file you downloaded to desktop and click on 'Open'. It will be put in the Extensions list. see second image below.

Create CSV file option Click on 'Address Book' Create an address book with all the names you need or use one already created. Then export the address book as a comma separated .csv file.

  • Select address book
  • Tools > Export
  • Choose where to save file
  • Give it a good filename
  • Save as Type: Comma Separated .csv
  • click on Save.

Note: the saved .csv file can be opened using eg: MS Excel or OpenOffice Calc.

Create the email Template. click on 'Write'. The name and email fields set up in curly brackets must match exactly the same Column header fields as displayed in the .csv file. see example in third image below Compose email.

Save as > Template It will be saved in your 'Templates' folder.

Use Template to create emails: Click on Templates folder. Double click on email in list or right click on email and select 'Edit as new message.'

a Write message opens showing the saved Tempalte email. If required edit the Template eg; Subject, Content - add attachment etc

  • 'File' > 'Mail Merge'

see fourth image below as example

  • Mail Source: CSV
  • Deliver Mode: 'Send Later' (This is put emails in Outbox, so you can check before sending)
  • Format: HTML
  • CSV File: click on 'Browse' button and locate the saved .csv file
  • Character set: UTF-8
  • Field Delimiter: comma
  • Text separater: double quote
  • click on OK

Emails will be created and put into 'Outbox'. You can check they are ok and send when you choose. Right click on Outbox and select 'Send unsent messages'
