Access to websites just possible through history and the log on these. Or links in emails. And bookmarks Applies to all websites, even if I can open them through the history log. All firewall settings are OK. No virus. Other browsers work perfect. Worked fine before this update, and have never had problems before. Have tried to delete and download ff again, but did not help. No error message appears

hello, normally such issues are caused by a firewall/security software which doesn't recognize & therefore blocks new firefox versions. please remove all program rules for firefox from your firewall and let it detect the new version of the browser again.

So to make sure I understand this: you can follow links and use bookmarks, but the address bar does not let you type in it, or you can type in it, but if you press Enter, the page does not load. Is that right, or can you clarify that?

If you open a new tab (Ctrl+t) and use the search bar on Firefox's new tab page, does that work?

In case one of your extensions is involved, could you test the page in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
  • Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

Not all add-ons are disabled: Flash and other plugins still run

After Firefox shuts down, a small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset).

Any difference?

Do you mean that you can't open an URL by typing its address in the location/address bar, but that other ways work?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.

  • Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

Yes, you have understood me right. I can type in the address bar, but nothing happens when I press enter. Same for new tabs. Totally dead. Can also type in the ff search bar, but nothing happens. I tried safe mode. No difference. Cannot be a fire wall or security problem, as it works fine with history tabs. (I also noticed a new problem; impossible to rename and reallocate videos when downloading. This worked fine before the update.) Can it be bugs in the update?

Try to open a new window to see if the location/address bar works in that new window.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

If possible uninstall your current Firefox version to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove "personal data" when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because this will remove all profile folders and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords including data in profiles created by other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

Have already tried that. No change. But I lost personal data stored for websites, like log in data etc. Sorry to say that I have spent too many hours of my time trying to fix a problem that is in ff and not my computer. Will find a new browser
