I am a student and have recently changed schools. When I go to google scholar, I am automatically redirected to a login site for my old school, which I do not have access to; and can't get just the regular site to show up. I somehow set this up years ago so I could login in at the beginning and search for articles through my school library, but now don't know how to undo it. Any help is appreciated!

Is this limited to Firefox, Safari is not affected?

Please check these things:

(1) Connection Setting

Either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > Preferences
  • (menu bar) Firefox > Preferences
  • type or paste about:preferences in the address bar and press Return

In the left column, click Advanced. On the right side, click the Network mini-tab, then the Settings button.

The default of "Use system proxy settings" should piggyback on your overall proxy settings. You also could try "No proxy" here.

(2) Extensions

If the proxying is not set through that dialog, it may be accomplished by an extension. You can review your list and disable extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Cmd+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right side and disable/remove any relevant extension.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Does either of those help?

You can check the connection settings and restore the default to use the "Use the system proxy settings" or "No proxy" setting.

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network : Connection > Settings
