Ever since I got win 8 when I go into my hotmail, the page with the e mail comes up and then like magic the e mail is gone and the page just sits there blank. I get line going through the top the hotmail from left to right and thats it. I get constant warnings that such and such program crashed and poof Firefox has crashed and I have to hit the reset button on the bottom. I get numerous crashes from Firefox at least 10 a day. I have had to move over to Oprah and Avant because hotmail works there and not with Firefox. Firefox is really terrible now, always crashing and warning coming up with crashed programs. Thanks. Even the trouble shooting box wont work...says Firefox wont allow it ..go figure

You can try basic steps like these in case of issues with web pages:

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and the cookies from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

If you use extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can block content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Do a clean reinstall and delete the Firefox program folder before (re)installing a fresh copy of the current Firefox release.

Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.

Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.

  • Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you lose personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.

Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.

  • (32 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\"
  • (64 bit Windows) "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\"

Your bookmarks and other personal data are stored in the Firefox profile folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

If you keep having problems then also create a new profile.

You can also check for problems caused by other (security) software.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

thanks again, but I did that already and nothing. The other browsers all work fine with hotmail and yahoo except firefox. I keep getting program crashes from hotmail saying which program caused the crash, like adobe or another program that firefox uses to run. I download the new programs as I am instructed and still the same thing, a blank mail page. I have had the same problem on my old windows 7 computer and it never could be remedied. Thanks for the info, it just a glitch that cant be repaired.

You can check for problems with current Flash plugin versions and try these:

  • disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
  • disable protected mode in the Flash plugin (Flash 11.3+ on Windows Vista and later)
  • disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin
