Hi, the latest update (23.0) has blocked wanted pop-ups for social websites that I use for my business and I can't figure out how to fix this.

Say I want to post an item to pinterest I can no longer use the button downloaded to my bookmarks toolbar to do so, a shield pops up next to the url. I tried choosing the "disable protection on this page" button but it didn't solve the problem, it refreshed the page but still didn't let me use any added-on toolbar buttons. I tried adding the sites I use to the lists of allowed pop-ups but it didn't work. Help please.

Thank you! Bethany

I haven't tried Firefox 23 yet, so I'm not personally familiar with the shield icon. However, I think it might refer to "mixed content," i.e., the introduction of insecure content into a secure page.

Does the shield look like the one pictured in this article: Mixed Content Blocker hits Firefox Beta!.

If you've had your Pin It button for a long time, could you try removing it and re-adding it to see whether the current version avoids this problem?

Edit: After looking at the code of the old button I have and the new one, I think the new one should avoid this problem.

Hi xenophrenia, which problem are you having --

  • Do you get the "shield" icon in the address bar, which indicates that Firefox 23 has blocked the script? This article shows the type of error I'm referring to: Mixed content blocking in Firefox The current Pin It button has solved this problem for me (I just tested).
  • Is it some other error, or it just doesn't work on a particular page?

Yes - I get the same shield icon and the button just doesn't work (without any error messages) ... when I click on on the 'learn more' link when I click on the shield I'm told that this feature doesn't apply to me even though it is effecting me. The shield doesn't show up until I click on the Pinterest button.

Hi xenophrenia, the first thing the Pin It button does it insert a tag into the page to retrieve a script from the Pinterest site. This is what causes the shield icon to appear. However, the current Pin It button should solve this problem because it retrieves the script over the same kind of connection you're using for the main page. I'm surprised the new Pin It button isn't working for you. Maybe there is a problem with your Bookmarks Toolbar? Can you make sure the new button you dragged to the bar isn't hidden on the drop-down at the end?

I had added the 'new' one next to the old one - then deleted the 'old' one - will try it again as I did this as soon as I had the issue of the button not working (but hadn't noticed the shield at that time) ... perhaps they changed the button since then - will try reinstalling it again and see if the issue is resolved

Yep - that was the issue - just added a new one before they actually had a new one ;-) ... thanks for the push to get me to try it again.
