How to close Firefox
When I am browsing I frequently close my browser to terminate my browsing by clicking on the "X" in the top right-hand corner. The expected result is the browser session is immediately closed.
have come across a large number of sites that capture this and then force me to answer a series of questions while preventing the normal close of the Firefox browser application. Is there any way to cause Firefox to ignore additional instructions when I select the close-button and just close? What I am experiencing is an abuse of how the program was designed to work. I won't elaborate on that unless someone really doesn't understand--I'll just stick to the facts.
I'm running a variety of Firefox on multiple systems, mostly Linux but 2 Windows boxes. I have 1 linux system running Firefox 3.6 and most of the others are on Firefox 19. If more details about version, os, or hw are required please let me know. On all platforms I experience the same issue.

It is usually better to use File > Quit Firefox to make sure that all windows are closed.
You can also check the warn prefs on the about:config page to suppress warnings or opt to restore the session automatically via the startup setting.
Please update all your machines to Firefox 20.0.1 as well.
With a user agent like this you may either have a corrupted user agent or run a very old Linux distribution that may not meet the system requirements for current Firefox versions.

I upgraded my one windows box to Firefox 20.0.1 (just a moment ago). I then went to the above URL and experienced the same frustrating unacceptable impediment to leaving the page.
Load the above URL into your Firefox and tell me if you can leave the URL "normally" without being forced to click in a dialog box presented by the site asking you if you *really* want to leave.
If you click the "X" you want to leave and close the tab or application. How do I make Firefox do what it's supposed to in this case?

That message pops up in other browsers as well as Firefox. I'm not really sure if there is an option in Firefox to block those, but there might be a pop-up blocker add-on which would likely block that, such as this one: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus-pop-up-addon/?src=search
I also agree it should be added to Fx as an actual part of the browser.

I am aware that it is also a problem in other browsers but didn't really consider that pertinent given my prediliction towards Firefox (that it's the best option and way ahead of the others in every way--regardless of the actual facts which may not always line up with my beliefs in this instance).
I remember a time, not too long ago, when this wasn't a problem. Browsers closed when you told them to and bad programmers weren't allowed to intercept your command and perform additional commands. While I can see areas where this can be helpful (e.g. You are about to close Firefox and lose the last 30 minutes of data-entry on this form--are you sure? OK/Cancel) programmers should never be allowed to come between the user and the controlling interface or there should at-least be an option to enable/disable this so I can say "When I click the "X" in the top right corner ignore the java, html, perl, etc. and close the fricking tab or application".
I shouldn't have to resort to kill or ending processes to stop my browser. I should be able to click the "X" and it should function according to the CUA specification.
