Thanks so much for you help. I had run the spyware before but, I did find one extension that hadn't shown up before and it was Surf Canyon Fast search...........I was using Surf Canyon with no problem before then it upgraded to 'fast search'........should have said 'no search' .........I removed it and it is working again. Thanks for all your help!!

Hi,
You can try to Manage Search Engines by clicking on the left side of the search bar, Remove all the current entries and Restore Defaults. Search Bar.
Thank you for your reply. There is no 'remove' there but I did find restore defaults under the customize button to no avail.......

Thank you for your help.........I deleted both of those and they came right back. I renamed them and the old ones came right back along with the renamed ones. Any ideas?
Yes, Firefox will create new files.
Does the search still doesn't work?
Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

I went into safe mode and used system restore to go back to when FireFox worked with it's extensions and add on's.
The add on's still weren't there so I R clicked on a toolbar and clicked "customize", then in the icon window I found the missing add on icons and dropped them onto a toolbar. Now the search bar works as well. I changed my "updates" to download but don't install instead of automatic update so I can see what it will mess up if I update. I still don't have RealPlayer downloader, it's still gone.
Sorry FireFox, I didn't like update 15!!!
