It has taken me days to find a way of contacting someone at Firefox to help an avid fan (Me) to get this far so I really hope you can help me. I downloaded Firefox Aurora about 10 days ago but had a problem with my PC so I reformatted the drive “C” back to zero and now I can’t get Aurora back as it was. It had the inspiring dark globe with a wonder of options to choose from but I now get the same glob with a great clean and fresh page to start with but a very annoying address that says only “about:home” can you please send me the correct address that should be showing and not a drop down that says “This Website does not supply identity information” If I download My favoured E-Mail client “Incredimail” It will take over Firefox with it’s horrid “MyStart” and the only way I can restore Firefox home page is if I have the correct address. I have tried this lot below, but no luck. Tried all these to get Aurora but still only get about:home http://uk.foxstart.com/?rls=en:uk:mu This one below instigates a download. http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mobile/nightly/latest-mozilla-aurora-android/fennec-11.0a2.multi.android-arm.apk This one below is a welcome page. http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/9.0.1/firstrun/ http://uk.foxstart.com/?ls=en:uk:zf This one below is Welcome to the future of Firefox http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/channel/ This one below is Download Aurora https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android#Download_Aurora

Just encase you identify users by country I live in South Wales U.K.

Thank you …Chris Thurlow…

Hi Chris,

I am not too sure exactly what it is you are trying to do or achieve.

Your system info aside would seem to indicate that you have indeed downloaded and installed Firefox Aurora. To get the standard home page you only need to type into the location bar about:home and hit the keyboard Return key.

You may have had previous customisations, or a specific homepage of your own choice, or conversley you may now have made change or set some other homepage.

Thank you John for trying. I can’t use “about:home: because it’s not a URL and If I install Incredimail it will force their own homepage on my Firefox home page. If I type in “about:home” as you suggest then I will end up with a blank page. All I need is the URL for Aurora so when I install Incredimail I can revert to my home page as Aurora by entering and saving the URL for Aurora, I don’t want to be stuck with an ugly “MyStart” as my home page, so if you do have the URL I would be very grateful if you would forward it to me and then I’m fixed, Thanks. Chris. PS. I have tried (How to set the home page?_restore-the-default-home-page

See https://support.mozilla.org/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page

Reset the browser.startup.homepage_override.mstone pref via the right-click context menu to the default on the about:config page and close and restart Firefox to restore the about:home page to its default.
Close and restart Firefox.

Thanks for trying Cor-el but this unfortunately isn’t the answer. The answer to my question is so simple. All I am looking for is the address (URL) of the firefox-11.0a2.en-GB.win32.home page. Is there anyone that has Aurora 11.0a2 running on Win-XP who can send it to me?? All I get is {about:home} I would like to install Incredimail for my E-Mail but it will take over the browser and put {MyStart}in its place. If I don’t have the exact URL I can’t get my Firefox browser back. So it is really that simple. Just the correct URL for the Firefox Aurora 11.0a2.en-GB will fix my problem. I would be very grateful if someone would send it through without any long winded fix it quick’s It’s not that I’m ungrateful of those that have tried, Quite the opposite, but for something this simple there is a simple answer. URL for Firefox 11.0a2.en-GB

{Must be GB}

Thanks…Chris…

about:home is the default home page in current Firefox versions and that is automatically shown if you leave the home page setting empty.

If you get another home page then either an extension is causing that or another program is overriding it.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Thanks again Cor-el, alas still no joy, I tried what you advised but with no joy. I deleted Firefox with the Windows standard Add-Remove and then with Revo-Pro as well as making sure no fragments of the program was left in the directory, then re-installed. I ended up with the same result so I asked a friend to download Aurora on his Vista and he ended up with the same result {about:home} The only thing I can try, is ask if you would please forward the address you have to me so I can see what that gives me. Other than that I would like to contact the Firefox development team but then I would need their address !!! Thanks…Chris…

I'm still not sure what you mean with {about:home} and what you want to see instead.

Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).

Hi again Chris,

I just thought I would add that I am in the UK and often use Firefox Aurora -en GB on Windows XP but am on a linux laptop right now.

It crosses my mind that what you may be tying to do is not modify Firefox, but modify your email client. Incredimail is not something I have used but I did a quick web search and presume it is this:

Could it have been the functionality of an extension, perhaps Fast Dial or similar.

Chris,

I have just fired up an XP, and opened a couple of instances of Firefox Aurora. I attach a screen shot, one Aurora is open at the home page about:home, the other, as you seem to want a url is open at www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/aurora

I am a GB user of firefox, but this may well be an en_US edition, but that should not stop you accessing the web page linked above both contain an Aurora globe. Such as

  • chrome://branding/content/about-logo.png
( The above will work from within firefox if pasted into the location bar )

Hello to all sorry I’ve been unable to return to this forum as the last two days have been taken up with hospital appointments. (More than you needed to know) but thanks for all your efforts to date. Unfortunately I’m still no closer to the resolve but looking at all your comments I note a mention of Linux that I think was originally designed for mobile / cell phones but should still work fine with Firefox as building block for the next version i.e. v12---etc. I’m not trying to modify Firefox or my E-Mail client using Firefox. Incredimail attempt to do this (Take over all engines) via their own search engine (MyStart) Regarding the functionality of an extension, well afraid not, I have only just downloaded the Aurora for about the fifteenth time and still get (about:home). One of the links I’ve received from you lovely people jar:file:///C:/Program%20Files/Aurora/omni.ja!/chrome/browser/content/branding/about-logo.png Gives me a very nice picture on a black window of the Globe itself. (Quite impressive it is to). I’m placing two small Adobe jpeg shots of pages I’ve come across Aurora Start Page===about:home and the Download page I’ve tried attaining from the program downloads http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/fx/ & http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/aurora/ & http://uk.foxstart.com/?rls=en:uk:mu

And more, but not one gives me an address in the top address bar, only (about:home). Again, we all know that a search engine has to have an address for it to work Apparently this is not the case. And it looks like I am stuck with a site that has no address. To explain again why I want an address is as follows: Incredimail is a third party E-Mail Client that I have used for many years. Because they offer a free service with excellent security they incorporate a search engine that automatically takes over all search engines you care to use with (MyStart) It doesn’t matter if you delete and then reinstall the engines / engine you prefer, you can only get them back by manually re-setting them to the address they should have and intern getting rid of their (MyStart) you will then get pestered by pop-up’s that can get by the pop-up blockers informing you that (MyStart) has been removed. They have become very clever in wording the pop-up's in a way that you accidentally put their Surch Engine back in place but if you keep a silly pathetic Surch Engine you never use on your P.C. and let them take over it with (MyStart) they tend to leave you alone, hence my need for an address in the Firefox browser or I cant get it back. If there is anyone out there that is using Aurora and it has an address in the top search bar where my (about:home) lives at the moment then I would be very grateful if you would simply just send it to me. It really is that simple!!! The last installation I had of Incredimail is very difficult to erase so I don’t recommend you using it unless you know your P.C. inside and out as you will need to find the java script they use and carefully delete the hidden files that Incredimail place in / on your P.C. So now I have decided to try the Thunderbird for my E-Mail rather than the Old fashioned Outlook, but Firefox being as particular about security as usually are, are not happy that my main ISP is not providing encryption so this is another problem that I need to address. If anybody has the info I need regarding the Aurora address then great, if not then I hope we have all learned something from this escapade and I wish you all a very prosperous and happy new year.

My best regards to all…. Chris…..

P.S. I’ve only used part of the pages (Cut Out) and enhanced slightly with Adobe 7 Photo Shop for ease of viewing

The about:home page is a simple, build-in, page with only a search bar that doesn't need access to internet to be displayed although the snippets are loaded from the server, so it opens as quickly as possible.

Which home page do you want to see if you are not satisfied with the about:home page?
You can set your home page to any page that you like.

If you want a home page with extras then set another page as the home page like [www.google.com] as used in Firefox 3 versions or the iGoogle site ([www.google.com/ig]).

Thanks Cor-el. It’s obvious I’m not going to get what I want!! I like the simplicity of a nice clean page with plenty of options. I’ve been using Firefox for quite some time and never had the silly “about:home” in the address bar that wasn’t in the past Firefox browsers. I have explained what I am trying to achieve and I have no intentions of using another browser inside Firefox, after all, what’s the point in having Firefox and using Opera, Google, etc? To search with. I never said I was unhappy with Firefox I just need an address so that I can keep Firefox and still use Incredimail for my E-Mail. I have come to the conclusion that nobody has an address for the Firefox Aurora and all are using “about:home” I’m going to have to settle with it and not have Incredimail. I use many browsers for my own reasons and that’s why they are all running with the complaint. But I’m still stuck with the untidy way all the E-Mail clients pages are configured. If you have never used Incredimail then you will not understand why I want it back but never mind, that’s life and we can’t always have what we want can we? Thanks for your time and efforts.

To your success. …Chris…

You can still set one of the above mentioned Google pages as the home page. Previous Firefox versions used www.google.com/firefox but that page is no longer maintained by Google and has a note about not running the latest Firefox version and urge to update to a more recent Firefox version.

Hi all Sorry about my delay in replying. (Not been to good!!) This looks like its worth a go(www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/aurora ) and seems quite sensible, Good answer, Ill let you all know if I get it working. Until then, Thanks to all who have done their best in solving the problem. I don't think an address for Aurora exists, That is to say so far nobody has offered one. All I want is the Aurora page address, I can get the firefox one with ease but that is stepping backward. And I see little point in having a Google search engine when Aurora should have it's own. I can get the latest download from the net or just send it to my PC from my Wife's Firefox. I tried this link again www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/aurora sent in by John99 but I still get the same blasted problem. I have a feeling that even with the built in uninstall and the add/remove, info is still held on drive “C” and even on my expansion drive so it goes back to the original, When I get a chance I will hit it with Revo-Pro and try again. My next quest is to try and get the Thunderbird mail page altered. At the moment it looks like an updated Microsft Outlook page. (A basic mess) It would be nice if we could have all our folders in alphabetical order so that we don’t have to search through dozens of mixed ones to find the one you want and if we had a facility to block, bounce & delete, Also to block sender with the options of blocking the Senders address, their name if they show one, the title or subject in the mail they sent to you and the (To address info) as I have come across many before that show an address I don’t recognize but that of a hyperlink to my address. Now this would be nice wouldn’t it? Not only that but I imported all my details from Outlook and instead of loading into the Thunderbird presets {Inbox, Sent Items / Outbox, Junk, Spam, and Trash/Bin. I now have two trees of the same content(One from the Outlook & One of the Thunderbird) so I might as well go back to outlook. I would also like to see a choice of text size not arrows to increase or decrease the fonts. What do you think? I’m not sure how to contact Firefox with these suggestion but I’m looking into it, Customize Firefox & Develop for Firefox, mmm!! maybe as good a place to start if any? Once again, thanks to all who have contributed to this ongoing for now dilemma.

Hi Chris,

Not sure we cam provide much more help.

You may be trying to work with and customise web mail clients rather than firefox itself. This forum provides help with firefox, and should be able to help you with firefox problems but not necessarily with problems with other programs.

Note firefox is a web browser but it is not a search engine. Firefox will look for files on the internet or a local computer and try to use that information. Although firefox is not a search engine it does by default use Google for instance by default when you enter an address in the location bar. Firefox also has a search bar, and that by default uses Google also, although it does have other options provided as standard.

General information

Firefox features

If your problem is with installing firefox we should be able to help. That would even include the advance situation of using more than one copy of firefox on your computer for instance if you decided you had a requirement for running Firefox 9, and Firefox Aurora 11

Advice may also be offered on uninstalling firefox if necessary, and that is relativly straightforward, and does not normally require any third party uninstall tools.

No doubt you have already found thunderbird support
