Firefox crashes / hangs since 8.0.1

I am running Windows XP Pro 64 on an AMD Athlon 64 x 2 processor. Immediately upon upgrading to 8.0.1 and ever since, FF has been crashing and hanging. More than 80% of the time, any attempt to load FF via any means results in a splash screen followed by the application terminating with no error. Much of the rest of the time results in a screen which offers to restore the previously locked session. Usually, this is locked, as well. Sometimes, it will allow the user to select whihc items to try to restore or to start a new session, at which point the app either terminates or hangs. Again, no error messages. If one can get past the entry screens - perhaps one try in ten, if that - the app seems to be stable until the Windows screen saver engages. Once the screen save engages, the app freezes solid without fail. No error message is ever reported. Below is the most recent crash ID, but it definitely is not the most recent lock-up. There were zero issues prior to the 8.0.1 upgrade, and instantly upon upgrading to 8.0.1 and beyond, the problem has been terrible. This platform is unusable in this state.

How can I troubleshoot this?

The only thing in the hangs section that has not been tried is disabling hardware acceleration. I'm trying that now. I don't think anything in the crashes section applies, because Firefox doesn't think it is crashing, or at least does not ever put up a Firefox crash screen. It just exits silently.

That may well be true, but disabling all the plug-ins did not resolve the issue, as I had done so prior to making this report, yet the problems persist. That said, it did seem to help some, as the frequency of crashes and hangs did appear to go down after disabling all the plug-ins.

OH, just BTW, I don't have Flash installed. I do have Shockwave installed.

Flash is referenced as "Shockwave Flash 11.1 r102" in plugins section.
Shockwave as referenced as "Shockwave for Director" isn't used much these days (there are games that use Shockwave) and isn't installed on your computer or is disabled, so don't confuse the two.

According to https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/#list-plugins, both Shockwave for Director 11.6.3.633 and Shockwave Flash 11.1.102.55 are installed. Perhaps I misunderstand, but is not "Shockwave for Director" required to run the pages on my website: http://fletchergeek.com/Marine_Photos/Slideshows-Flash.html ? In any case, disabling all the plug-ins FF will allow me to disable does not alleviate the issues. Disabling hardware acceleration seems to have helped, but I will need more time to verify.

Note also, I rarely ever play videos, and certainly none of the issues I am having are related to playing videos. If Flash is causing problems, then it is doing so without being specifically called to play a video.
