When I play videos (YouTube, Novamov, Videobb, etc...) I get a message from Java saying: " video format unidentified/unknown" and the video's picture start stopping and playing (frame by frame) while voice has no problem. What should I do? I've already reinstalled Java on my laptop but that didn't solve the problem. Thanks a lot!!!

Chosen solution

Remove/Uninstall McAfee Site Advisor and ReminderFox. These add-ons have been causing problems with Firefox versions. Also see this:

kingp1ng: I had both Easy Youtube Video Downloader and NewTabKing. Both stopped working. Uninstalled both. Problem fixed.

ice792: Try Video DownloadHelper 4.9.4 Really easy to use, you´ll get used to it quickly.

Check and tell if its working.

Thanks for the reply but I already tried this site and it didn't help me. I also read the JavaScript site and it was not of much help either

all these websites that I visited were within Firefox support

Are you sure that you do not mean JavaScript?

To avoid confusion: http://kb.mozillazine.org/JavaScript_is_not_Java

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

ok, First of all, thank you very much for replying. After reading the website you provided me with, I think that I'm most likely encountering a problem with Java itself rather than JavaScript. i tried all what you told me about now and it didn't relieve the problem. I even had the same problem in the safe mode.

Well, I tried every trick I found in the websites that you gave me. I even created a brand new firefox profile (i.e. a plain firefox without ANY additions or alterations) and I had the exact same problem. I tried playing videos with other browsers and saw the same problem. You may ask, why didn't you try that before? Well, I did and it did not make any problems until I played with firefox's settings. I don't know what the hell does this means. Anyway, I removed Java completely by uninstalling it and deleting its related files in my computer. Then, things started going ok before they went back to not ok. I reinstalled the Java plugin for firefox but that didn't solve the problem.

-> Clearing Location bar History

-> Clear Search bar History

-> Is my Firefox problem a result of MALWARE ??

Do a MALWARE check with Malware Scanning programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you UPDATE each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

Check and tell if its working.
